Beat 5
Officer Mike Hicks
October 2011
This month I continued to make close patrols of Beat 5 looking for City ordinance violations such as junk vehicles, un-mowed lawns, high weeds, dangerous structures and other hazards. I did not locate any new junk vehicles this month in Beat 5. I also patrolled known and other suspected drug locations throughout the City trying to observe any unusual traffic. I did not locate any suspicious activity at the locations I checked.
Also this month I conducted radar speed checks in several locations in Beat 5. I was able to issue several tickets and warnings for speeding, running stop signs, and equipment violations.
This month I also participated in National Night Out by assisting the citizens of Beat 5 sponsor Beat parties. One party was held in the 1200 block of Winston Drive and was a hit with the neighborhood. A second National Night Out party was sponsored by Walgreens in their parking lot at 1600 Jackson Street. Both parties were great successes, and I would like to thank all the sponsors for setting them up.
This will be the last month that I will be assigned to Beat 5 as I have been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division. While I look forward to the new assignment I will also miss the many persons that I was able to meet while in Beat 5. Officer Cessna will be taking my place as the Beat Officer for Beat 5.
