Beat 9

Officer Brian Culpepper

July 2008

The month of July was fairly quiet in Beat 09, due to the high daytime temperatures and residents on vacation throughout the month.  I did not observe the usual walking crowd that I am used to seeing on the streets in the evening.  I was able to monitor the traffic on Lamar a little better this month, but still I am receiving word from residents that speeders up and down Lamar continue to be a problem.  I spoke with several residents of Beat 09 during the month, including Anthony Deleon, who stated that he was a newer resident of the beat, and at this time he sees no problems.  Mr. Deleon stated that he has small children who like to play outside, and he is satisfied with the generosity and acceptance from his neighbors.  I advised Mr. Deleon to contact me if he had any concerns.  Another person I spoke with during the month was Peggy Ryan, who is the nurse at Deaf Smith Elementary School.  Mrs. Ryan stated that she and her husband have lived in the area for a very long time, and then she stated that problems seem to come and go as the years roll by.  Mrs. Ryan stated that she sees no real problems at this time, but did state that she is concerned that the traffic on Mulberry and Lamar will again start to pick up with the beginning of the school year.  She asked that I pass the word to other officers that the work we do in the mornings around Deaf Smith School is very much appreciated.  The last person I spoke with during July was Daniel Johnson.  Mr. Johnson advised that he and his family have never had any reasons to contact the police department, but just seeing the patrol cars going up and down the streets are a welcome sight.  Mr. Johnson stated that he and his family feel quite safe knowing that the patrolmen are out keeping the streets and properties safe.  I gave Mr. Johnson my business card and advised him to contact me with any complaints or concerns.
